Every day in May 6

EDM no 6 - draw a favourite well-loved object or a childhood toy. This bear was given to me by my husband when we had just met and I was going away as an exchange student for 6 months. He's called Kasper-Valter (Valter is my husband's middle name), and was my companion for those 6 months, sleeping in my bed, giving me a good night kiss every night. He is indeed well-loved.

I had intended to do a quick pencil sketch and then fill it in with ink and water color, but then this drawing just kind of came. I was hardly aware of what I was doing. I was even talking to my husband at the same time and the sketch just kept on coming through. Very cool experience, so I've decided to let him stay the way he is (but I really need to get some of that fixing spray, bacause the sketch is really getting smudged, just by me writing next to it). At least for now.

And this is how the intire spread turned out in the end, for challenges 5 and 6.

  4. Lovely bear - you really captured his character. Re: your comment on my blog - you CAN draw people - any way you want, it's just practise and being willing to make a mess. I started from scratch and I DO mean scratch about 6 years ago but since then I've drawn thousands of people and every one, no matter how badly done, has helped me.

  5. I like how the bear looks alonside the sketch of your daughter's bed - it's a great looking spread. (I was a foreign exchange student too. My boyfriend gave me The Hobbit to read while I was away. I didn't read it, and he wasn't my boyfriend when I returned home. Your story is much better!:))

I used to have a teddy just like it. I think I had it from I was 6 until I was 11... =) I miss my teddy, dad bought it for me from Australia.

  11. I love the entire spread. It is so interesting how the bear is very realistic, and the bed has a children's book look to it. They are both very good! And I think it is great that your daughter was painting it beside you!

  17. Awww, such a sweet bear and an even sweeter story. This is a lovely drawing and a wonderful spread. I love how you were able to share art time with your daughter.
My DH gave me a teddy bear when we were first dating. To tell him (much later ;))we were expecting our first baby I gave him a teddy bear in a diaper, then our toddler handed him a teddy in a diaper and then the next toddler did that, and the next did too. By baby #4, he had become a bit frightened of teddy bears I think!!
