This is a portrait of my husband. I cannot imagine a life without him. <3
I have set a goal for myself to improve my skills at drawing portraits, which is something I find extremely difficult. Do you have any tips for me on how to get better at getting a good resemblance? I find that I can get different parts to look pretty good, but if I'm just half a millimeter off somewhere, then the whole thing looks wierd. (I think that's why I like doing flowers and stuff, it doesn't matter if it's a little bit off LOL).
I think this is a great sketch! I know what you mean about the difficulties of sketching portraits though and I am guilty of shying away from them! You have inspired me to have a go now!
ReplyDeletePortraits are difficult for me, too, but this is a very good drawing. It's so true that one little line can throw off the whole thing! Flowers are much safer. lol nancy
ReplyDeleteawwwwwww...this is such a sweet post!!! =) You nailed this one without a doubt! Love the sketch, it's beautiful.
ReplyDeleteGetting a likeness of someone is so difficult, but I think you've done really well, and it's a lovely idea too.
ReplyDeleteIt has been a long time since I did some EDM sketches. Good idea to draw a loved one for this EDM.
ReplyDeleteI actually find it easier to do portraits than to do things like bottles! I know a lot of people would disagree; maybe it's because I draw faces all the time and never draw bottles!! Anyway, I think your sketch looks great, even though I cannot comment on likeness, obviously. One thing that I noticed was that the first few times I drew my husband, I thought it was impossible to get a likeness. He just has one of those faces that are tricky to catch. But, the more I drew him, the easier it got. I haven't memorized his face--I couldn't draw a likeness from memory--but there is some memory that comes out when I am drawing him now. It is so much easier to get a likeness!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great - like a real person. I can't say how close you got to your husband's likeness since you didn't post a photo but it turned out great as a drawing.
ReplyDeletepractice, practice, practice!!!! Draw noses for a month, then eyes, then chins, then ears. At the end of those few months, you'll get better at putting the parts together!
ReplyDeleteYou have done an expressive drawing--his portrait has a look of kindness to it. I think it is harder to do portraits of people who I know well and see often. I set a lot higher standard for myself in portraying them.
ReplyDeleteI know exactly how you feel... can´t help you with the answer obviously as you have seen my losy portraits. I think you did a really good job with this drawing though, it looks just like him I would say!
ReplyDeleteGood sketch. Just keep drawing. Your eye will get better at seeing and drawing the faces.
ReplyDeleteVery nice - and a lovely post.
ReplyDeleteHmm - basically I learned by just doing it, but knowing something of proportion helps -http://painting.about.com/od/figuresportraits/ss/figure_class_2.htm and trying to look for shapes rather than at the features. But I think you're doing fine.
